Cruises X2 and Paris and London

We'll be cruising from Barcelona to Venice then flying to Paris for four days. Next we "chunnel" to London and after four days there board another ship in Southampton and travel to Ft Lauderdale. I will report on the "antics and adventures"!

Lisbon – October 29, 2014

I woke up early and am glad I did because I watched us sail under the “little sibling” of the Golden Gate Bridge on our way to the dock in Lisbon.  It was a warm, quiet dawn and the sun was just rising behind the statue of Christ that is elevated near the bridge.  Beautiful!  I did get some video but I don’t thing it will truly show the peaceful sail.
OK….poetic moment over!  I just don’t want to forget the beauty of this morning!  This blog is for me, too!

The Commodore and I made our way off the ship about 9:30 and walked across the dock and right onto a HOHO bus!  We spent the next 90 minutes or so enjoyed the city of Lisbon from the upper deck in the 75 degree sunshine!  Glorious!  The city is a mixture of old and new and they mix in some unusual ways.  Urban planning here must be a nightmare!  The city was destroyed by an earthquake in 1755 so there is old and new old!  Then there is the “new” city just outside the new old.  Are you confused yet?  I am.

Because of the good weather there were people everywhere and there are also two cruise ships in port so that make traffic even more challenging.

The guy sitting behind us on the HOHO bus said something really funny today!  We were actually trying to avoid them because she didn’t even know what city she was in….! Duh?  Anyway, he yells out “Hey, I don’t have dandruff anymore, the guy behind me does”!

We made our way back to the ship about 1pm and then enjoyed having the yacht pretty much to ourselves.  Had a quick lunch and the Commodore headed off to the gym.  He’s been very good about getting in his exercise everyday….me? Not so good!  I do, however, take a lot of stairs!

We now have a day at sea to look forward to and then Ponta Delgada in the Azores.  We briefly had a tour scheduled to the “cloud forest” but I cancelled it when I remembered that the mountains there are usually always in the fog.  I figure that “cloud forest” is their euphemism for a bus trip to fog so we bailed.  It’s easy to walk into the town from the pier so I’m sure that’s what we will do.

Played trivia this afternoon and we were tied, again, for second even though we got 19/21!!  Here you go:  what cereal holds up the best in all climatic conditions?
No, it’s not Cheerios or Grape Nuts…..it’s Barley.  Duh..

This evening after dinner the Commodore and I took in a show that we enjoyed starring a young, very talented man, named Joe West.  He could sing, dance and play several instruments.  Very enjoyable.

Betty and Don had a great trip to Fatima and said they didn’t hate the bus ride.  Poor Betty has developed a cold so isn’t feeling 100%.  You know she’s not well when she skips the Casino!  She’ll be able to take it easy tomorrow…no tours!
The Commodore and I did hit the Casino and I am still playing on their money!  Love that!  I should probably just quit now…..nah, no way!

I have to mention that we have the best Cruise Director we’ve ever had on this ship!  His name is Kelvin Joy and he is the funniest person I’ve ever seen on a ship!  He puts all the other comedians to shame by his “off the cuff” humor.  He had me in tears tonight during the “60’s Music Trivia”.  In fact, everyone was roaring with laughter!  He’s so very quick and clever.

No news on Morticia and the Troll.  We seem to finish our dinner before they appear.  Guess we’ll just have to have two desserts tomorrow!  Heehee!  The “bag of Crown Royal” and “bowl O ice” appeared but no “Mrs Dash”.  Hmmm….mysterious. LOL!

All for tonight…..
XOXOXO

M

  1. A great cruise director is a major bonus! No Mrs. Dash. Either someone will be fired, or they had already decided on pasta for dinner. Surely, they don't ad Mrs. Dash to pasta.
