We'll be cruising from Barcelona to Venice then flying to Paris for four days. Next we "chunnel" to London and after four days there board another ship in Southampton and travel to Ft Lauderdale. I will report on the "antics and adventures"!

London - October 22, 2014

Woke up early today since we went to bed early last night and toddled down to the restaurant here for our "included" full English breakfast!  The Brits do know how to lay on a morning spread!  This one is particularly nice because of all the fresh fruit and, of course, the croissants!  Of course, being England, you have to get past the baked beans, blood pudding and baked tomatoes!!  Nevermind, we all got fed!

We waited around a bit for the TKTS office to open so we could see what kind of tickets we could get at half price.  We found out the play we wanted is still sold out, "The Book of Mormon", but Betty and Don got tickets for "Billy Elliott" tomorrow afternoon.  It's a great show and they will really enjoy it.  We could have seen "Speed the Plow" but it "stars" Lindsay Lohan so we took a pass.

Just after that we noticed some activity in Leicester Square and Don was in a great position to take a paparazzi shot of George Clooney's new wife!  Once he gets it to me I'll post it here for your viewing pleasure!

Then it was time for walking!  And we did just that!  Took off and our first stop was the area around Covent Garden.  There is a new Apple Store there that is amazingly beautiful and I couldn't get over how stunning the space was.  I'll try and transfer some pictures tomorrow.  It was fun wandering around that area with street musicians, great little shops and great people watching.

From there we made out way to the British Museum (along with every elementary class in London!).
We took in some of the exhibits and checked out the Parthenon Marbles that Greece is suing to get back!  (Clooney's wife is on that case!)  By then it was nearly 2pm and time for another meal!  We were very familiar with that part of London so we took Betty and Don to a Turkish restaurant we liked very much.  I went to London for many years with a group from Carmel that was focused on seeing plays for a couple of weeks every January.  We were lucky to have either one of the actors or director speak to us the day after we saw their production!  We always stayed at the same hotel in the Bloomsbury area and just a few yards from the British Museum.

Anyhoo....after lunch we headed back a different way to our hotel and while the Commodore and I took a break Betty and Don walked down the street to take in Trafalgar Square.

Wine time was at 5:30 and we just stayed in the area for dinner.  I think all our walking, hauling bags, change in time and locations and culture shock is taking a bit of a toll!  We are still laughing and enjoying every minute especially when the Commodore and Don decided to try on hats in the flea market.....and then take each other's picture!  Too funny!

I have really good news to report.......Betty has finally found some hair spray!  Up till now it's been a vigorous and thorough search for just the right type and today....Voila!!! Success!!!  There is joy in Mudville!!

We've all had another wonderful day and tomorrow we will head in different directions to explore. Plus Betty and Don have their matinee.  The Commodore and I will amuse ourselves very well since this is such an interesting city!

Nighty-night!
XOXOXOX

  2. Looks like they have upgraded the hotel and it's called "The Bloomsbury" now. Food is still very good at Taz!
