Paris - October 20, 2014

We'd planned a "lazy" morning and it worked!  We met the Birthday Girl and Don for breakfast around nine this morning.  It had been raining earlier and stopped just as we finished and were heading off to walk to the Eiffel Tower.  Yes, walk.  The Commodore wasn't terribly exited about that prospect but is such a good sport and off we went!

The walk over there was a little over two miles but the day was cool and the rain clouds were quickly disappearing.  The tower is always impressive and so were the crowds!!  There are a couple of ways to get up a level or two......make reservations well in advance or........spend $125pp for lunch and get a "free" ride!  We did neither and enjoyed the sight from below and the craziness of the crowds!

After spending some time there we headed back to our hotel through a different neighborhood as we had walked by the Seine earlier.  About three quarters of the way back we found O'Brien's Irish Pub and we just had to stop in for some Guinness and a bite of lunch.  I have to say the hamburgers in there were the best we have had in a long time!  Sure hope they were beef!! Neigh!

As we were leaving there were two black limousines in front of the pub with their drivers nearby.  As we were walking away the Commodore said that the guy who plays on the TV show "Castle" was having a meal at the bar in O'Briens and he recognized him on his way by.  Well!  Betty and Don said "that's our favorite TV show"!  They turned quickly and headed back to the restaurant and I noticed the Commodore begin to laugh.....hard.  There was no TV star in the bar!  Pretty quickly Betty and Don came back to where we were holding our sides in laughter and joined in the hysteria!  Such good sports and wonderful friends!  We all enjoyed that laugh so much!

Back to the hotel for a bit of a rest and then we met for wine and headed out to try another neighborhood restaurant for dinner.  We missed the rain again while we were back at the hotel and it was dry again for our dinner foray......so far, so good with the weather gods!!

Tomorrow we will pack up in the morning and head out to Gare Nord to catch our train to London.  We will lose and hour so we'll leave Paris at 1:13 and arrive in London at 2:27!  Plenty of time to get to our next hotel before dark.

Another good day, good weather. good friends, fast internet.....grateful!
XOXOXOX

  1. I had a laugh about dad not wanting to do that walk. Brian took a picture of me holding Mason (in the summer heat) after an Eiffel Tower death march, in front of the well named street "Sufferin."
